Alfred Geary

Alfred Geary
Pam asked about her great grandfather Alfred GEARY - She knew THE FOLLOWING:
Alfred was born about 1849, England.
He died in 1911, buried in Rookwood cemetery
His parents were Alfred and Sarah
His wife was Ada.
First target - check NSW BMD.
His death not found.
Found his marriage 1678/1888  GEARY  ALFRED,   CROMPTON  ADA,   SYDNEY
He married Ada in 1888 when he was 38. This suggests he was
married earlier.
Did he earlier marry Sarah Ann WILLIS? It appears this was his first marriage.

More UK- search the census
I trawled the Census 1841-81 and bmd from 1837  in UK and the only
Alfred who matches is the following.

Alfred Geary, born in Northchurch, Hertfordshire about 1849/1850

His parents were Henry b 1810 abt in Chesham, Bucks. and Martha Pitkin who
had the following children:
Mary Anne about 1830, Eleanor, William, Henry, Martha, Joseph, Noah, George, Alfred, Edward.b abt 1853

plus somewhere in between- Elizabeth, Lydia and Thomas who may have died in infancy.

Henry is a farmer, increasing his holdings from 1841 to 1861, having 270
acres in 1861, (Ivy House Farm) and employing several people. All his
children have some kind of farm employment.

Martha died in 1860.

In 1871, it seems Henry has died and the family have scattered. So he
probably leased the farm rather than owned it. The youngest three boys
George, Alfred and Edward have disappeared from the 1871 census indicating
they may have died or immigrated.

So that fits with your Alfred who has probably arrived in NSW by 1870.
